Charna Island is located near Mubarak Goth, Kiamari Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.
It is a small, uninhabited island located in the Arabian Sea, about 9 km (5.6 mi) west of the mouth of the Hub River called "Manjhar Beach", at the boundary between the provinces of Balochistan and Sindh.
Charna is also known as "Cheerno" by the locals. It is 6 km away from Mubarak Village and the GPS coordinates are: 24°53'47"N 66°36'13"E
Charna is approximately 1.2 km (0.75 mi) long and 0.5 km (0.31 mi) wide and it is mostly used as a firing range by the Pakistan Navy.
It is also used by tourists for activities such as scuba diving, freediving, underwater photography, hiking, speed boating, kneeboarding, wakesurfing, banana tubing, jet skiing, cliff diving and snorkeling.
Depending upon the boat hired, there are many places to start your journey from. This includes Mubarak Village (46 km from Karachi), Sandspit beach, Manora, Defence Creek Club, Marina Club, PAF Yacht Club, etc.
Mubarak Goth, the second largest fisherman locality in Karachi, is the most popular place to start journey towards Charna Island.
Visitors must note that everybody, Pakistani or otherwise, requires a special permit to visit the Islands of Pakistan.
On a speed boat, if you leave from one of the clubs located in Korangi Creek or Defence Creek area, it may take about 90 minutes to reach the rock.
As you will get closer to Charna Island, deep blue shade will surround you the calm waves glistening under the sky as though the water had been scattered with jewels.
